The Long Night of the Museums is a highlight in the Berlin calendar, attracting a loyal following of locals, as well as visitors from all over the world. Museums and galleries across the city open their doors late, offering guests an all-you-can-see buffet-style evening of exhibitions, guided tours and special events. A shuttle bus service operates on several different routes, allowing you to visit even the most out-of-the-way attractions. The House of World Cultures is a leading centre for the contemporary arts and a venue for projects breaking through artistic boundaries.

The national and international reputation of the House of World Cultures is based on its innovative and experimental presentations of the fine arts, dance, theatre, film, literature and music as well as its international conferences.
The House of World Cultures is located in a building of great architectural and historical interest. The structure evolved as the United States’ contribution to the International Building Exhibition (INTERBAU) in 1957, which resulted in designs by many prominent architects being executed here in the Tiergarten.

The idea of a carnival which presents the cultural and ethnic diversity of Berlin was developed in 1995, at a time when a lot of social, economic and cultural changes happened. With the concept of a carnival which focused on the cultural richness of Berlin, the Carnival of Cultures was the concept that was a success from the start. The Werkstatt der Kulturen (WdK) is the initiator and organizer of the Carnival of Cultures in Berlin that takes place once a year at Pentecost week-end.
