The German Parliament buildings are located close to our TopDomizil apartments Am Platz vor dem Neuen Tor. The Parliament consist of the following buildings: the famous Reichstag, Bundeskanzleramt, Jakob Kaiser Building, the Paul Löbe Building as well as the Marie-Elisabeth Lüders Building. In 1991 the German Bundestag decided that the seat of Parliament and the Federal Government should no longer be Bonn:  the German Bundestag moved into the rebuilt Reichstag Building in Berlin. Visitors to the Reichstag Building today are not only able to admire its impressive architecture, but also view a range of artworks created by established German and foreign artists for the home of the German parliament. In recent years, the German Bundestag has developed into a major visitor attraction. More than 15 million people have visited it since the transfer from Bonn to Berlin.

The Art- Centre Tacheles is situated in a ruin in Berlin Mitte, just around the corner of our TopDomizil „Panorama Apartments Friedrichstraße“ . Located in former East Berlin, the area was a Jewish quarter in the past and has now become a meeting point for people interested in arts and culture –  and for those who think they are! The building itself was the entrance of the Friedrichstadt- Passage, a shopping mall built in 1907. At the tacheles are about 30 studios with at least 50 artists from all over the world. In addition changing events take place in the multifunctional „golden hall“.

Leipziger Straße
Leipziger Platz bis Spittelmarkt

The Leipziger Straße stretches 1.5 kilometers from Leipziger Platz (next to Potsdamer Platz) to Spittelmarkt. It was constructed at the same time as adjoining Friedrichstadt in 1688. In 1706 Leipziger Straße was named after the parallel running trade route to the city of Leipzig. During World War II the pompous department stores, shops and government buildings were destroyed for the most part. In replacement, the DDR government started to build typical socialist- style skyscrapers with 2000 apartments in the 1970s that still dominate the scenery today. In the eastern part of Leipziger Straße the width of the road changes eye-catchingly from eight to four tracks. An important detail nowadays, because Leipziger Straße once again transformed to one of the major inter- city routes connecting former East- and West- Berlin.

Already in 1837 the first Russian Embassy Berlin was found at the exact location as it is to be found today: Unter den Linden 63- 65. Back then, the Russian Empire needed an adequate building for its lasting diplomatic dependency with Prussia: One decided in favor of a two story rococo palace. Destroyed in World War II by the western Allies, a new building was constructed from 1949 to 51 in so called „socialistic- classicism” style. This demonstrative architecture is also to be found at Stalin- and Karl-Marx-Allee, in Berlin Mitte and Friedrichshain/ Kreuzberg. The Russian Embassy is headquarters of the diplomatic mission of the Russian Federation in Germany.
